We know you may be concerned about the CDC order requiring negative COVID test results for travelers on flights to the US.
Please don’t worry, as you are able to get the required antigen test right here, at the hotel. In just 15 minutes you get a valid digital test result and a printed copy, as well. The cost is $50 per test.
Canadian requirements are more stringent than those for entry to the US. Although the US accepts rapid antigen tests, Canada requires a negative result from a PCR test.
Currently there are three laboratories in the area offering same day service for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) tests using Real Time-PCR. We will be able to take the sample at Playa Escondida, deliver it to the laboratory, and return you the results, documented as required by the airline. The current cost is around $200 per person, however we are expecting it to drop as soon as more laboratories are able to process the tests.
Negative Pre-departure Test Result for COVID-19 or negative Qualifying Test result means documentation of a negative COVID-10 test taken within the 3 calendar days preceding a flight’s departure. Such documentation may be in paper or electronic format as required by this Order. Testing must be performed using a viral test. The documentation must also include sufficient verification information—such as the name and contact information for the laboratory or healthcare personnel who performed the test.
Viral test means a viral detection test for current infection) i.e., a nucleic acids amplification test or a viral antigen test) approved or authorized by the relevant national authority for the detection of SARS-CoV-2.
Documentation of a negative laboratory test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test and must be taken within 72 hours prior to the traveller’s scheduled departure to Canada. Anyone who receives a negative test result and is authorized to enter Canada must still complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine.
